Toraya Cafe

The Toraya Cafe is a nice, cozy cafe located on the basement level of Isetan Department Store in Shinjuku. Toraya is one of Japan’s traditional wagashi makers.

This cafe is the perfect spot for people to come by and rest after their done shopping.  At the cafe, they serve a different variety of seasonable wagashi (they change them every month to match the season), oshiruko, annmitsu, rice with beans that comes with pickles, and many more.  There are also several drinks to select from on the menu as well, hot or cold, sweetened or unsweetened, matcha tea, green tea, coffee… You name it!

Today, I picked a chestnut mochi wagashi to enjoy fall.  However, it was warm in spite of the season so I ordered an iced, matcha tea.
