Hozu River Cruise in Kyoto

If you would like to enjoy a beautiful landscape of mountains and rivers, this boat cruise from Kameoka to Sagano is a fun adventure that I guarantee you will enjoy.  First, you take a train from Kyoto station to Kameoka, then walk down to the boat station to catch your boat.  The ticket booth is on the second floor of the building.  You wait in the lounge until your number is called,  and when it is you can go down to the jetty to ride into your boat. Depending on the climate the ride can be faster or slower.  On the day we were there, the water was slow so it took us about 2 hours to reach Sagano.  When the boat was almost to Sagano, the boat shop approached our boat to serve us drinks and food.  After we enjoyed our snacking we got to the shore to get off.  From there we started our sightseeing of the tourist village, bamboo forest and the temple as well as eating traditional Japanese food.  There is a small touristy train station on the main street where you can take a small local street car to go back to the town of Kyoto to enjoy even more sightseeing.
