Sasazuka is a small town in Shibuya-ku. You take the Toei Shinjyuku Line and it is only a few stops from Shinjuku. In Sasazuka, you can find the publisher’s office of Veggy magazine. Vegetarians in Japan subscribe to this magazine which features a vegetarian lifestyle.
Each month, they hold what they call “Vegetable Izakaya”, a drinking evening with vegetable dishes. Chefs of local vegetarian restaurants in Tokyo gather to cook delicious, vegan meals. My vegetarian friend introduced me to this little veggie society and took me to this event on Sunday Night. It was super packed with nearly 50 people in one little room.
The first drink is free and each additional drink you can purchase for 500 yen. The entrance fee is 3000 yen per person. You can also purchase the Veggie magazine including back copies as well as vegetarian cooking books with a 20% discount when you are there.
They also sell vegetarian muffins to go.
It was a fun event surrounded by a lot of energetic, young people.
